Fragmented Threats
Illegal trade, poaching, and trafficking put all eight species of big cats at risk. Criminal networks operate across borders, exploiting gaps between national datasets, enforcement agencies, and conservation bodies. Without a unified view of this activity, threats go undetected, connections between trafficking networks are missed, and opportunities to intervene are lost.
This fragmentation prevents analysts from seeing the full picture and limiting the effectiveness of data-driven responses.

This approach gives users a regional and cross-species view of trade that would be hidden in fragmented, national datasets. By linking both legal and illegal trade data, analysts can see the full picture, uncover patterns that span different markets, detect emerging risks, and prioritise focus.

Data-driven Solution
Working with the Environmental Investigation Agency, GoInsight built CatByte – a centralised intelligence platform that standardises and links trade and trafficking data across more than 100 countries and all eight big cat species.
Drawing on 17 structured data tables, the platform uses automated processing and scalable cloud architecture to connect datasets that were previously too fragmented or inconsistent to use together. Built on a secure Snowflake data warehouse, CatByte integrates with Power BI and Python, enabling analysts to build dashboards, run models, and generate visualisations from a single, reliable source.
As new data becomes available, it is incorporated automatically, keeping the intelligence current without manual intervention.
